E-Waste Drive to Benefit Goodwill

E-Waste DriveIn recognition of Earth Day, Safety Net is offering its annual “Keep it Green!  Keep it Clean!” E-Waste Drive to benefit Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan. On April 22 – 23, Safety Net will travel to Traverse City area businesses and pick up unwanted computers and electronics.  The equipment will be properly recycled with profits benefitting Goodwill’s programs and services.

To schedule an E-Waste Drive pickup, organizations are encouraged to e-mail goodwillpickup@safetynet-inc.com or call Jenni Hatton at (231) 944-1100, ext. 114, by Monday, April 20. Allowable donations include computer components, PCs (desktops and laptops), hard drives, keyboards and mice.

Many computer and electronics components have the potential to release elements such as lead, cadmium, and mercury into soil and groundwater. Proper disposal and recycling virtually eliminate the potential for health and environmental hazards.  E-waste also contains valuable scrap metals, which help to conserve natural resources by reducing the need for new mining activity.

Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization headquartered in Traverse City serving counties throughout Northern Michigan. Goodwill offers a comprehensive and unique package of vocational, housing, transportation, nutritional, family strengthening and retail services designed to serve the whole person; the whole family.
