In recognition of Earth Day, Safety Net is offering its annual “Keep it Green! Keep it Clean!” E-Waste Drive. On April 24 and 25, Safety Net will travel to businesses in both northern Michigan and metro Detroit to pick up unwanted computers and related components.
Items picked up in the Traverse City area will be recycled locally with proceeds benefitting the programs and services of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan. E-waste collected in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area will be properly recycled by High Tech Recycling, eliminating hundreds of pounds of waste from Michigan landfills.
Many computer and electronics components have the potential to release elements such as lead, cadmium, and mercury into soil and groundwater. Proper disposal and recycling virtually eliminate the potential for health and environmental hazards. E-waste also contains valuable scrap metals, which help to conserve natural resources by reducing the need for new mining activity.
Allowable donations include computer components, PCs (desktops and laptops), hard drives, keyboards, printers, and mice. CRT-style monitors (those that are similar to old televisions) are not eligible for this service due to rapidly increasing costs associated with their disposal.
If your business has e-waste taking up valuable space, drop us a quick note and we’ll be happy to get you on our schedule!
