September 2018 Spotlight: Teter Orthotics and Prosthetics
We get to work with some AMAZING companies who inspire us to be great, and we shouldn’t get to keep that all to ourselves! Longtime client Teter Orthotics & Prosthetics has 22 locations through Michigan, as far south as Three Rivers all the way up to Marquette, and they’ve been doing their good work for over 60 years. Their professional staff numbers over 80 people, most of whom are Certified Orthotists and Prosthetists.
As a company steeped in medical technology, they value information technology to keep those locations connected and running smoothly.
According to their Safety Net Fractional CIO Jeff Fulton, Teter layers on extra security through Your Net Compliance Edition to help ensure their IT meets HIPAA standards.
Teter has built its solid reputation on consistently outstanding service to their patients. Take a moment to check out some of the inspirational stories they share on their web site. May we all have such a positive impact on the communities we serve.
Wishing all at Teter continued success!
November 2018 Spotlight: Northern Physicians Organization: Using Data to Drive Better Care
Northern Physicians Organization (NPO) has been a fixture in the Northern Michigan healthcare community for nearly 30 years. It is a physician-led organization that offers area practices the benefits of being part of a large group while maintaining their independence. They collaborate to establish best practices in process and communication, while generating innovative ideas for healthcare in the region.
NPO’s partnership with Safety Net, particularly the regular Technical Health Assessments, has been instrumental in their compliance with HIPAA. Ed Worthington, Director of IT, said “Safety Net has helped us manage our growth and to implement strong security mechanisms that allow us to protect patient data.” That’s especially important because one of the innovative solutions NPO put in place was a Qualified Health Information Exchange where electronic health records are integrated, “to connect physicians who share a common patient.” Providers have the information they need in one place to provide outstanding care for patients in Michigan, rather than that important data living in siloes at each physician’s office or hospital. When you think about what’s in that data (like allergies and medications) it’s not an overstatement to say this can mean life or death for some people.
In 2018, 34 NPO members were designated Patient-Centered Medical Homes (PCMH) by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. PCMH is a respected model of care that focuses on a holistic, comprehensive approach. Providers work with patients to encourage them to better manage their health through proactive lifestyle changes. The result is a healthier, more productive community.
NPO continues to do the hard work to raise the bar and advocate for high-quality healthcare in Michigan.
January 2019 Spotlight: Variation Reduction Solutions – Michigan Innovation with a Global Impact
VRSI is an independent engineering services company located in Plymouth, Michigan. They’ve been in business since 1998 and employ over 70 people. VRSI provides measurement technology solutions to a variety of industries to maximize quality and minimize waste.
According to Myles Markey, President and Owner, a dedication to customer focus has given VRSI an advantage in winning contracts that require innovation and flexibility. Depending on the project, VRSI draws from multiple suppliers rather than being tied exclusively to one technology platform or vendor. Their engineering teams have a large amount of autonomy allowing them to attack client problems head-on and innovate quickly to solve them.
Their work with the Air Force on the F-35 fighter jet was highlighted as a success of the Small Business Technology Transfer program. VRSI was able to take a time-consuming process that was previously completed manually and reduce the production time required by developing an optical projection system. The cutting-edge technology improves efficiency and accuracy from the beginning of production through complete overhauls of the aircraft.
Because of the sensitive nature of the data they work with, VRSI needed an IT support partner that provided top-level security solutions. Through extensive collaboration with their Safety Net team, VRSI complies with National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST) cybersecurity standards, which gives them a competitive advantage over other companies.
We get to see some of the really cool work that’s being done at VRSI on a regular basis. If you’re interested in innovation, manufacturing, planes, trains, or automobiles, we recommend checking out videos of their solutions in action!
