Safety Net Annual E-Waste Drive To Benefit Goodwill

Back by popular demand, Safety Net is holding a “Keep it Green! Keep it Clean!” drive to benefit Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan. From April 17–19, Safety Net will travel to area businesses and pick up unwanted computers and electronics. The equipment will then be transported to Goodwill, where it is properly recycled and profits benefit Goodwill’s programs and services.

Many computer and electronics components have the potential to release elements such as lead, cadmium, and mercury into soil and groundwater. Proper disposal and recycling virtually eliminates the potential for health and environmental hazards. E-waste also contains valuable scrap metals, conserving natural resources from new mining activity.

Allowable donations include monitors, desktop and laptop computers, printers, scanners, hard drives (internal and external), keyboards, mice, speakers, cords and cables, ink and toner cartridges, software (with license key), Microsoft Xbox, Microsoft-branded webcams, cell phones of any type, and small appliances (such as coffee makers and toasters).

To schedule a time slot, organizations are encouraged to email goodwillpickup@safetynet-inc.com or call Heather Askew at (231) 944-1100, ext. 112, by Monday, April 15.
