Tim Cerny

Officer
Tim Cerny
Chief Executive Officer
Well-rounded is one way to describe Tim Cerny, CEO of Safety Net. Tim is an authentic leader, one who thrives on cultivating great work environments and developing the people around him to help them achieve their goals. He’s done that for all three of his sons and he’s done that for hundreds of individuals throughout his career. We’re excited to have him at the helm of Safety Net. The energy and empathy he brings to the office every day is contagious.
Tim is a Traverse City native who’s lived in a variety of places around the Midwest and Canada. Tim started his career with TEKsystems and grew to become their Executive Vice President of Canadian Operations. Most recently, he was the president of AHSA, a managed healthcare service provider. He most enjoys developing relationships with long-standing Safety Net clients and bringing aboard new ones.
Tim and his wife, Michele, take full advantage of the beauty that surrounds them in northern Michigan. They enjoy golfing, boating, and snowmobiling. During football season, you’ll find them (along with friends and family) cheering on their sons at Traverse City West Senior High and the University of Illinois. They don’t pass up the opportunity to visit their other son in Colorado and hit the slopes out west!
From day one with Safety Net, Tim has proven to be a planner. One who is consistent and controlled, but fun at the same time. He is sincere and shows integrity in all he does. With his mentorship, the sky is the limit for team Safety Net!
Reno Olivero
Vice President of
Operations
Reno Olivero
Vice President of Operations
Don’t let his first name fool you – Reno Olivero isn’t known for wild times and shotgun weddings. In fact, quite the opposite. This Reno is as reliable and accountable as they come, the kind of guy everyone wants on their team. We like him so much that we’ve hired him twice!
Previously a Network Manager for American Brake & Clutch, Reno first joined the Safety Net team in 2012 as a Support Specialist. He worked tirelessly to resolve clients’ IT issues and formed some great relationships along the way (he’s a Dale Carnegie graduate after all). From our office in Greater Detroit, Reno earned a slew of certifications and advanced to become Senior Network Administrator and Client Team Lead.
Sadly, the academic world lured him away for a few years. Reno spent some time helping the University of Michigan with IT and business process management. Rumor has it he really missed Hawaiian Shirt Day – who wouldn’t? We like to think our fun team environment paired with our outstanding clients led him to return to Safety Net as a Network Engineer and fCIO. As a perfect fit for our Southeast Michigan clients, empowering them with the knowledge and technology they deserve, Reno was appointed the Regional Director!
Fast forward a couple of years. His excellent technical experience, fine-tuned business acumen, and passion for service all led to yet another promotion. Reno became the newly created Vice President of Operations in 2022.
When he isn’t hard at work, this Eastern Michigan University grad can be found spending time with his family or working on his golf swing. No matter what the activity, it’s done with with the same steadfast dedication Reno Olivero has always brought to Safety Net.

Jeff Mertz
Director of Support Services
So we had a client that badly needed wireless internet access to a secluded building in the middle of winter, where no road would dare go in the cold months. Mere mortals would view this situation and proclaim “Oh don’t even!” But the Safety Net office isn’t stocked with mere mortals, it has…Mertz. Jeff hops on a snowmobile, powers through raging snowstorms risking life and limb, scampers up a snow encrusted roof, and…boom…the client is surfing in style. Seems he takes above and beyond to a literal extreme.
For 15 years, Jeff Mertz was an Engineer at Safety Net, where he implemented countless server and network infrastructure projects, and specialized in all things security. When the opportunity for a change came about, Mertz enthusiastically jumped at the chance to become the Director of Support Services. Utilizing his 25+ years of experience and passion for hardware and networking, Jeff is an awesome resource for those on the front lines at Safety Net – the Support Services Group. As one of our longest tenured associates, Jeff has been a natural leader for a while… combine that with his top-notch dad skills, and we hit the leadership jackpot! With previous experience at Eaton and General Motors, Jeff brings enterprise methodologies to the small and midsize markets.
Jeff attended Michigan State University (mainly for the marching band) and obtained a Bachelors Degree in Telecommunications. He almost has too many certifications to list, but for starters he’s a Certified Ethical Hacker, Cisco Certified Network Professional Security, Cisco Certified Network Associate +Security, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Microsoft Certified Professional, VMware Certified Professional, and holds Comp/TIA A+ and Dell Enterprise Storage certs.
Oh, and don’t even get him started on smartphones or computer hardware. One of his superpowers gives him the ability to elaborate for hours on these subjects (and pretty much anything else!), and remember, the rest of us ARE mere mortals.

Karrie Grant
Controller & HR Administrator
Once in a while you come across someone that has the crazy ability to train porcupines to juggle beach balls. You know, those people with a natural gift of teaching in a way that fits the student. Well, that describes Karrie Grant. We’re glad she is though, because as Controller & HR Administrator at Safety Net, Karrie is responsible for keeping the wheels turning for our clients and associates. She works hand-in-hand with our staff members to help develop well-defined processes and thorough documentation to ensure excellent service for our clients. Karrie really enjoys finding areas to improve and driving these initiatives. Her continuous improvement skills also come in handy for special projects and advanced problem-solving.
Karrie attended Baker College and holds a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting. She is Microsoft certified in Dynamics RMS and Dynamics POS. Before joining Safety Net, Karrie served in the Air Force and did a year of service in AmeriCorps VISTA, where she helped set up mentoring programs at two local schools. So you see, leadership is in her blood.
And we’re not saying the porcupine analogy is true, but we found a couple beach balls scattered around the Safety Net building and we’re currently checking the surveillance video for clues.

Toni Coscarelli
Director of Professional Services & Innovation
We had trouble figuring out just what to put on this page about Toni Coscarelli. We know what we wanted to put – something witty and clever that would poke fun at her in the same way she does to us. We like that about her, we really do. No, really. Working hard for our clients and having fun doing it should be the goal, right? And well, we’re sure everyone on the staff must consider her smart because that word is used in phrases to describe her all the time. That has to be a good thing, right?
In between bursts of wit that keep us rolling on the floor, Toni is responsible for a good deal of everything security-related and oversight of infrastructure project work at Safety Net. Prior to joining the team in 2008, Toni worked in IT for 20 years for a manufacturer that catered to the auto industry, and an internet dot-com catering to professional photographers. The latter was a position where she ushered a company struggling technologically with a few hundred customers to a multi-million dollar endeavor with thousands of customers in 18 countries.
During the occasional periods when she’s not working, she likes to sail, take pictures with photography equipment she really shouldn’t have spent so much money on, and spend time with family. Her newest hobby? Powered paragliding. Toni currently holds the MCITP EA and MCITP EMA certifications. And well, sometimes we think she’s just plain certified!

Tom Wyatt
Account Executive
The first thing Tom Wyatt will tell you is that the most important thing to him is his family. He loves his wife and four children – that is, two daughters and two furry children. When not raising pups and kids, he can fill your ears with music factoids about many different genres or he might be off training for the next Iceman Cometh.
Though he might be quite talkative about his favorite music, Tom is a great listener when it comes to helping businesses find solutions to the challenges they face. Tom is certified in Solution Selling, a philosophy and methodology that allows him to delve deep into a client’s business needs and requires follow-up to ensure solutions provided real value.
Before he joined the Safety Net family, Tom graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing. He then spent 16 years in Advertising Sales and Sales Management. He worked for a number of newspapers and magazines and also worked for affiliates of autotrader.com and cars.com at their inception. In a prior life, he was a nightclub DJ, hence the music knowledge. Originally from Colorado, Tom spent six years in California prior to moving to Michigan in 1997.
We are glad he decided to settle down here to teach us all a little about new technology, professional needs analysis, and the roots of rock n’roll.

Sol Orlowski
Network Engineer
Most of us would consider ourselves the type of people who would help out in an emergency. Sol Orlowski has actually had the opportunity to do so! When his former employer’s building caught fire, Sol sprung into action moving their entire IT infrastructure to a different facility, preventing the equipment from potential smoke and water damage.
This is just one of the reasons that Sol was an ideal fit as a Deployment Engineer. With his diligent work ethic, Sol ensures all projects assigned to him are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a secure manner. With experience, training, and mentorship, Sol has moved up even further in the ranks – he celebrated his 10 year anniversary at Safety Net with a promotion to Network Engineer.
Before joining Safety Net, Sol was an IT director for a Michigan county for over nine years. Prior to that, he was the IT Manager for Maple Ridge Supply, where he was responsible for computer and network diagnostics and repair for over six years. He studied Network Administration at Alpena Community College, and Computer Science at Northwestern Technical College. Sol also holds CompTIA A+, KCA, SCS-BE 2012 administrator, and Dell AppAssure certifications.
In his free time, Sol enjoys water sports like sailing, canoeing and kayaking, as well as mountain biking and exploring off the beaten path in his Jeep! His passion for problem solving has made him a relied-upon member of our team. Hopefully, Sol won’t need to help out with any more fires, but we do know that he can be counted on to take care of whatever that needs to be done.

Tyson Acosta
Technical
Alignment Manager
Tyson Acosta
Technical Alignment Manager
Tyson Acosta is currently starring in the role of Technical Alignment Manager here at Safety Net. While he’s never played that role on the stage, he’s had plenty of other experiences in a variety of theater productions and roles – including the Old Town Theater Playhouse. And, we can attest that providing clients with quality technical support is a role that Tyson was born to play.
Tyson holds a CompTIA A+ certification and has a strong IT background having worked as a helpdesk technician at Munson Healthcare, an IT Specialist at Corporate Title Agency, and a Computer Support Technician at Ferris State University before joining Safety Net.
A strong communicator, Tyson is a great teacher and actually earned a Michigan Teacher’s Certificate. He aspires to help clients feel comfortable with technology. So, he’ll not only resolve your problem, but he’ll take the time to teach you how to ensure that the same problem doesn’t happen again.
When he’s not solving customer problems, Tyson is a foodie who loves to cook, and he continues honing his acting skills in various theater productions.
Here at Safety Net, we think Tyson is already a star, and you will too if you’re lucky enough to work with him!

Jenni Peoples

There’s an old adage, “If you want something done, ask a busy person.” This certainly holds true when it comes to Jenni Peoples. Whether it’s caring for her three dogs or dreaming up innovative ways to tell Safety Net’s story to future clients, Jenni is able to juggle a lot! She still manages to get it all done with a smile on her face.
Before joining Safety Net, Jenni worked in customer service and inside sales for a local manufacturer, where she was instrumental in improving the processes and efficiencies that contributed to their ISO certification and Six Sigma projects. She’s also worked in a variety of office management and administrative roles always keeping a keen eye on the details and making sure to document procedures and processes.
Jenni loves a challenge, whether it’s at work or at home. She’s great at solving problems. A vital skill when involved in event planning and execution!
In her spare time, Jenni can be found with friends and family, trying new restaurants (or revisiting her favorites), playing a round at any golf course she can find, or exploring new cities while she travels. Eric Anderson
Senior Network Engineer
Eric Anderson is much like Dos Equis’ “The Most Interesting Man in the World,” but specifically for IT. This well-traveled adventurer has honed his technology skills across the globe, in far-off locations from the South Pole to the Middle East.
He got an early start in technology. Eric’s father worked in IT for a Fortune 500. So, he would spend his childhood weekends swapping out backup tapes. His career began as a Technical Operations manager for the largest computer retailer in Metro Detroit. He went on to work abroad as a Supervisor of Network Operations for the National Science Foundation and later a Senior System Administrator and Information Assurance Security Officer for the Federal Government.
Along the way, Eric has earned a number of certifications, including Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Cisco Certified Network Associate, and GIAC Certified Incident Handler.
Eric has parlayed many of these unique experiences into his role as Senior Network Engineer responsible for our clients’ infrastructure projects. Having worked in some inhospitable environments, he has a calm competence under pressure and can concentrate on getting the job done. He is also skilled at communicating complex concepts to clients, so they can better understand technology.
When Eric is not busy at work, you may find him exploring watery depths as a scuba diver or high above us in the skies. He’s had his pilot’s license since he was a teenager. Take that Dos Equis man!

Jason Ovaitt
Network Administrator
Jason Ovaitt loves hockey. His entire family is crazy for the sport. Both his son and daughter play on teams, and Jason is right there cheering them on whenever he can.
Hockey has some similarities to his role as a Network Administrator at Safety Net. Both require a fast pace and can be challenging at times. Jason is able to easily adapt working with our clients to ensure that their systems are running optimally.
Before joining Safety Net, Jason worked in various IT roles for local technology providers and manufacturers for 11 years. During that time, he gained extensive knowledge in Windows servers and network configuration. He also holds a Bachelors in Computer Information Systems from Ferris State University.
Jason enjoys the remote support capabilities that Safety Net has, because it lets him resolve client issues quickly and he can monitor performance and update systems without going onsite. Not to say he doesn’t enjoy meeting clients face-to-face. His laid-back, friendly personality makes him easy to approach and he is always willing to provide his insights. However, you may not want face-off with him on the ice … just kidding!

Jason Martin’s excitement about technology, his family, and all things active are contagious and bring out the best in those around him. As a father of three boys and a fur kid, Jason stays busy coaching flag football, taking on the role of Lego Batman in video games, and reminiscing about his days as a Jazzercise instructor!
A graduate of Central Michigan University (Fire up Chips!) Jason came to Safety Net with quite a bit of computer and network support experience, a CompTIA A+ certification under his belt, and numerous awards from previous employers for his outstanding customer service. He prides himself on continuously learning, focusing on a problem and working until it is solved, and having empathy in tough situations.
Jason knew the role of Technical Alignment Manager (TAM) was one for him when he realized how many people he would meet and learned of the variety of IT environments to which he’d be exposed. His love for all things IT and his natural leadership skills led him to a role managing the TAM department. His jovial personality, passionate attitude, and dedication to quality results make him a client favorite. He’s one of our favorites, too!

Brian Tschirhart
Network Engineer
Brian Tschirhart jumped at the opportunity to return to the Traverse City area and join Safety Net as a Deployment Technician. We knew he’d be a terrific addition to the team when he offered suggestions for beating the cold one of us was fighting during the interview process. His caring nature is a perfect complement to his love of being a husband and a dad. He’s approachable, easy to talk to, and dedicated to getting the job done.
Brian holds several Microsoft certifications and is a certified sports nut. His dedication is impressive; he’s a 20-year season ticket holder for MSU football (GoGreen!). He opts to focus on the lighter side of life – which is why he’s still a die-hard Tigers fan after last season. He always has a smile to share, and Brian laughs at just about everything, including jokes told by some of his less-funny colleagues during weekly group lunches.
After nearly two decades providing top-level IT service in manufacturing, healthcare and the government sector, Brian has excelled at deployments and new project work with our clients. He’s so impressive that after one year on the job, he was promoted to Network Engineer! He has a passion for data and network security, disaster recovery initiatives and continuous learning. Whether it’s teaching his daughter to appreciate classic rock music or talking a client through a process related to their new hardware, he prides himself on communicating clearly and respectfully with everyone.
Brian loves to travel with his family; I wonder how many road trips he’ll take to MSU now that he’s settled Up North!

Jen Marcenaro
Account Manager
After taking some Networking and Infrastructure classes at NMC, Jen knew there was something about IT that really drew her in. Not surprisingly, she realized quickly she needed to get into a field that allowed her to work closely with people and stay busy all the time. Safety Net made sense for those reasons. She connected with our recruiting team, listened to our advice, and never gave up. She was persistent, and boy are we glad she was!
Jen started as our Support Services Coordinator. From there, she dove in as Desktop Deployment Coordinator – scheduling deployments, dotting all the I’s and crossing all the T’s. When she wasn’t tackling the organizational pieces of her role, she was out in the field getting new users or new machines set up for success. She’s always on the go – she does everything quickly, and with a crazy amount of enthusiasm, but she does it all well! It’s a pretty impressive combo. The same can be said when she’s not at work. If you can track her down, she’s likely working out, camping, or making messes with her monkey children. (They’re not really monkeys; they just have the energy of a troop of chimpanzees – and we’re certain they get it from their mom!)
From Support Services to Desktop Deployment, Jen has really learned all things Safety Net from the ground up. She took that knowledge and her love of helping others to the next level as part of our Business Development team. And now – she’s where she was meant to be all along. She’s an Account Manager, serving as a technology liaison and strategic partner to our clients.
Her favorite part of Safety Net? The people – future and existing clients and her colleagues. That feeling is mutual – Jen brings a smile to the faces of everyone around her – people and monkeys alike!

Jonathon Burns
Systems Administrator & Team Lead
Creative people are curious, they like challenges, they aren’t afraid to experiment, they have high standards, and they’re open to feedback – giving it and receiving it. Successful IT people have those same qualities, so the path Jonathon (Jon) Burns took from a degree in Film Studies at Cornerstone University to a career with Safety Net makes a lot of sense.
Add to Jon’s creativity his patience and love of learning, and a role in IT support is a perfect fit! As a self-described geek (lover of Star Wars and Star Trek), Jon got his start in IT as a Student Technician at Cornerstone. He spent the last of seven years working at the University as their Lead Technology Support Specialist. Safety Net’s clients appreciate the level of support Jon provides, always with a smile (they can hear it in his voice), and attention to detail. He’s an awesome teammate who doesn’t give up on a problem until he’s solved it. That may be a result of the time he spends building LEGO sets. His most difficult build? The 2100+ piece Palace Cinema.
Jon brings a sense of calm to the office that perfectly balances the impressive amount of energy exuding from others on the support team. When he’s not mentoring junior colleagues, or resolving support requests, he spends many a lunch hour reading science fiction and fantasy novels in the office kitchen. We’re excited to see Jon continue to contribute so much at Safety Net – and we know he will!

Mike Boff
Systems Administrator
Have you ever heard of a Large Münsterlander? Mike Boff has – he’s training one (and an English Setter) to be his bird hunting dogs. Which came first, his love of dogs, or his interest (leading to a degree) in animal science? We may never know! What we do know is that we’re glad he changed career paths and chose to dive into IT.
Like many Safety Netters, Mike is a military guy, continuing to serve in the U.S. Army National Guard. That’s where he got his start as an Information Technology Specialist. A problem-solver, Mike loves a challenge and looks forward to the learning that comes with not immediately knowing an answer. Throughout a recent deployment with the National Guard, Mike kept his nose to the proverbial IT grindstone, continuing online training whenever his scheduled allowed. As a result, upon his return to Safety Net, he was promoted to Systems Administrator! Mike enjoys collaborating with teammates to provide great service and helping clients make the best use of their technology.
When not busy with work or training his dogs, Mike can be found hiking, kayaking, and enjoying the beauty of northern Michigan. He also enjoys weightlifting and playing or watching football. He has a competitive streak, always striving to be better today than he was yesterday. We know that is why he’ll continue to do great things on Team Safety Net!

Tanner DeWalt
Technical Alignment Specialist
After attending Northwestern Michigan College, Tanner took the meaning of “up north” to a whole new level when he relocated to Alaska! Seems like a pretty perfect place to call home when you have a love of snowboarding, fishing, and road trips.
A genuinely friendly guy with a passion for providing awesome service, Tanner was a logical choice to represent Safety Net on computer deployments to client sites. Not only does he love learning from his peers (and life experiences), but he really enjoys teaching others how to use technology to their advantage. Starting as a member of a certain squad at a certain store, he moved into consulting and account management. It was upon his return to Michigan that Tanner took the plunge into IT (and extensive home remodels!) – and he hasn’t looked back.
Someone who is always willing to help, and who works hard day in and day out, Tanner continues to make amazing contributions at Safety Net. After just over a year as a Desktop Deployment Technician, Tanner was promoted to Desktop Deployment Coordinator. His exceptional attention to detail, dedication to excellence, and desire to grow with the company earned him a role as Safety Net’s first Technical Alignment Coordinator! Yet again, Tanner proved that career paths here are unlimite when he was promoted to Technical Alignment Specialist.
A calm voice of reason, and a reliable source of support for everyone on the team, we’re grateful for Tanner’s decision to call Safety Net his work home!

Centralized Services Manager
Jake Robison is a puzzle master, at work or at play. He loves to solve problems, learn new things, and find different ways to accomplish tasks. He’s a team player – always offering to help a colleague when they’re stumped, and endlessly leveraging LinkedIn to help his connections grow and learn. Jake is also a natural leader. After a couple years as a Technical Alignment Manager, he was promoted to a leadership role on our Centralized Services team in 2023.
You’d never know it by looking at him, and you’d certainly be thrown off by his boundless energy, but Jake is a grandpa! We couldn’t believe it, but it’s true – the internet doesn’t lie! Setting a great example for his children and grandchild, Jake recently earned a degree in Information Technology from Central Michigan University. He previously worked for a Managed Service Provider in mid-Michigan, but literally jumped at the chance to move to Traverse City when we asked him to join the team. He’s a perfect addition and brings a positive vibe to everyone around him. Clients love working with him, and teammates think he’s awesome!
Jake’s service-focused approach to IT is an example for all of us to follow. He never backs down from a challenge, and always has a smile on his face. He spends his free time exploring Michigan and attending festivals with his family. They also watch a lot of movies. His favorite? Inception. Our guess is that his adventurous nature and his love of the big screen fuel the uncanny amount of knowledge he has – he knows at least a little bit about A LOT of things. And Jake likes to talk, so we’re all lucky to learn from his experiences.

If you Google Oakland University, you’ll see their motto – “Where Dreamers Become Leaders.” Brendan Tinker is, without a doubt, a dreamer – he and his wife regularly visit Walt Disney World! And he has all the qualities you’d expect in a leader – he’s passionate, he’s always willing to lend a hand, and he never backs down from a challenge. It sounds like he chose the right place to study and earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. The Information Security and Assurance specialty is where a career in IT makes sense!
Brendan is a team-player who views every day as an opportunity to grow. When his first support position was eliminated during the pandemic, he tried his hand at something new. He still got to work with people and help them, but it wasn’t technology-specific, which is where he wanted to be. Fast forward to Safety Net – and those dreams of helping people with their technology issues became his reality again! Brendan immediately clicked with his teammates and regularly receives rave reviews from clients. Just a few short months after joining the team, his hard work paid off, and Brendan was promoted for the first time… a few more months and a lot more hard work, and Brendan earner promotion number two! Fast forward yet again, and after hard work and earning some certifications, Brendan moved from the Support Services Group to the Professional Services Team where he is currently a Deployment Engineer.
Brendan does some of his best work under pressure, so he doesn’t mind the occasional stress that comes with working in a support role. In the midst of a busy day, he loves a good joke – recognizing the importance of taking a break to enjoy the moment. When he’s not at work or riding Space Mountain, Brendan enjoys running and reading. He’s a consummate learner and we’re excited to see where his path takes him.

Before joining our team, Steven spent over 4 years in the United States Air Force, where he served as a Network Operations Supervisor and Tactical Cyber Operations Technician. We are truly grateful for his service to our country, and that he landed at Safety Net when his time in the military was done.
When Steven isn’t saving the day at work, he’s busy competing in overclocking competitions (we Googled it for you!) or working on his project car. His dedication to detail can be seen in the way he communicates with his teammates and the clients he supports.
Known for his ability to stay calm under pressure, Steven relies on his critical thinking, problem-solving, and superb communication skills. Don’t let him fool you… while he may start out quiet and reserved, once you get to know him, he’ll be the loudest one in the room!
With Steven Kelly on our team, Safety Net has an IT superhero who provides third-level support, technical guidance, and mentoring to our Support Specialists and Network Technicians. He is an invaluable asset that keeps client networks running smoothly and his teammates entertained! Steven is a critical member of the Safety Net family, and we’re lucky to have him!

Arguably the most fashion-forward guy (if every day were Hawaiian shirt day), a day with Russell in the office always includes bright colors or fun patterns, silliness, and a bit of extra volume (he’s loud). When working from home, we’re all prepared for his random addition of GIFs to any virtual conversation. Laughter and pranks aside, Russell is always willing to help, and remains focused and punctual, which our team and our clients certainly appreciate.
Outside of work, he takes advantage of plenty of physical activities in Traverse City. A practiced rock climber at Elev8 and an avid lunchtime bike rider on the Boardman Trail, Russell is always on the go…except while playing board games, then he slows down a bit. We’re not sure how he still finds the time to work toward his degree at NMC and complete training available through Safety Net, but he does. Is it possible for a wardrobe to give someone extraordinary energy? Maybe that’s the key!
We can’t wait to see what crazy things he hides around the office next week… Stay tuned!

As a Technical Alignment Manager, Ray is known to his teammates and the clients he supports for his ability to bring people together, translate complex technical terms into user-friendly language, and make everyone’s lives easier. His degree in English Literature from Ferris State hasn’t gone to waste… the documentation he creates or updates is top-notch and his communication style is that of a gentleman and a scholar!
Despite his love for all things spooky and unsettling, Ray’s personality is anything but scary. His attentive, kind, curious, and thoughtful nature makes him a delight to work with and a joy to be around. Ray is always up for a challenge, and his ability to take on new responsibilities with ease is a testament to his adaptability and leadership skills.

Bryce Herkner has always been fascinated by technology, from audio engineering and mobile electronics to traditional “IT.” His passion for computers and helping people led him to Safety Net, first as an intern, and shortly after as a Support Services Coordinator. Fast forward not too long, and Bryce was promoted to the role of Support Services Specialist before he (even more quickly) earned the role of Network Technician!
When he’s not busy troubleshooting, you may find Bryce studying for his classes through Ferris State where he is pursuing a Bachelors in IT Infrastructure. Work and school can’t make a life complete, so he’ll take time to relax at music festivals, or playing video games. Bryce is a competitor by nature, and he enjoys challenging himself to improve and success – at his desk or on the disc golf course!
Known for his compassion and loyalty, Bryce treats people with kindness and respect, building strong relationships which helps him achieve success. One of his favorite things about his job is problem-solving with teammates. He loves working together to find solutions and overcome obstacles. He also enjoy company-wide meetings where we can all come together and have a good laugh. And of course, group lunches are always a highlight because Bryce loves food and spending time with my colleagues.
Passionate and optimistic, Bryce always try to bring energy to everything I do. Sometimes his energy can make him a little loud! (Good thing we have sound absorption panels in the NOC!) Bryce is a rising star at Safety Net and we’re excited to see where his path takes him!

Though his IT education is on the developer side of the CIT program at Northwestern Michigan College, Sam took a chance on Safety Net, and we’re glad he did! Sam’s journey with Safety Net started with an internship, but he quickly won over our hearts (and stomachs) with his wicked sense of humor and passion for group lunches. Within weeks, we knew we had to bring him on permanently, and we haven’t looked back since! When it comes to client services, Sam is the man with the plan. He’s a people person who communicates like a boss, making sure our clients get the best possible results from our Professional Services team. He develops project quotes with precision and care, always going the extra mile to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues, alike. And he does it all with a smile on his face and a trick up his sleeve. Sam’s not in the office? Where could he be?! Our bet is he’s out on the trails with his trusty Husky, Beau, or he’s backpacking his way to new adventures. When he needs a break from all that exploring, it’s likely you’ll find him climbing a rock wall or playing Disc Golf. Rumor has it he’s a pro, and he’s waiting for it to hit the next Olympics. So don’t be surprised if you catch him practicing his Turbo-Putt during his lunch break! Sam’s strengths lie in his determination, adaptability, and gratitude. His colleagues describe him as an open-minded guy who looks for the humor in life. He always goes above and beyond, ensuring that every interaction leaves people with a smile on their faces!
Devin Gordon
Support Coordinator,
Team Lead
Devin Gordon
Support Coordinator,
Team Lead
Meet Devin, who started with Safety Net as the friendly, self-proclaimed “slightly ridiculous” Support Services Coordinator with a warm personality and a strong work ethic. Devin has found his calling in the fast-paced world of client services and IT Support and quickly moved up through the ranks to Network Technician, before being promoted, yet again!
Despite starting his career as a chef, Devin made a complete career change and now holds a degree in Computer Information Technology from Northwestern Michigan College. Devin is obviously passionate about expanding his knowledge in the field.
In his spare time, Devin can be found experimenting with new cooking techniques and continuing his IT studies. Most importantly, his love for video games isn’t to be taken lightly… he took advantage of downtime during COVID and he beat all the main Legend of Zelda games in less than six months!
Devin loves collaborating with people who inspire him to learn, and troubleshooting issues to find resolutions. He is a natural communicator who thrives under pressure. With a friendly and empathetic demeanor, Devin goes the extra mile to build positive relationships with clients and peers. He is the perfect person to lead our Support Coordinator team!
If you’re lucky enough to work with Devin, you’ll quickly find that he’s not your average IT guy. He’s more like the Gordon Ramsay of client services, except instead of yelling at you for undercooked scallops, he’s attacking service tickets to get them resolved. With a sense of humor that could rival the funniest stand-up comedians, Devin brings a lighthearted and enjoyable atmosphere to the workplace. He is the perfect blend of technical know-how and comedic timing.
Lisa Bacon
Procurement & Administrative Coordinator
Lisa Bacon
Procurement & Administrative Coordinator
Can you believe Lisa Bacon never realized her initials (LB) mean pound… like a pound of Bacon!?!? While (luckily) not full of terrible jokes or puns, Lisa is the dictionary definition of a dependable, conscientious, and all-around awesome colleague who loves making a difference in people’s lives. She’s the glue that holds the office together, and believe us when we say, we would be lost without her! Every day is different but she always ensures there’s a process in place for success.
When she’s not busy at the office making things happen behind the scenes, Lisa loves to hang out with her husband and daughter, especially at their rustic cabin in the U.P. While she keeps the lights on at Safety Net, she thinks electricity is overrated when getting away from it all. She also enjoys snuggling with her pets – including her two cats, dog, and gecko (ok… no snuggles for the gecko, but lots of love). After nearly 20 years of experience at a local news outlet, it was safe to assume Lisa would get along with all types of people – co-workers and clients a like. That assumption was spot on – her colleagues describe her as kind, compassionate, and thoughtful. Quite truthfully, Lisa is our hero. She makes sure everyone has what they need to get through the day – including coffee and snacks! Being the only member of the Safety Net team that is always in the office, she’s so happy to see others on their non-remote days!
Lisa continues to impress us as our Procurement and Administrative Coordinator. There is a quiet intelligence about Lisa that shines through her responsibilities of asset tracking, order entry, fleet and office management, and more! She is an invaluable asset to our organization. Whether she’s planning a company lunch or ensuring a smooth customer experience, Lisa is always up for a challenge. With her reliable optimism, Lisa truly is a Safety Net Rockstar, and we consider ourselves lucky to have her on our team!

With a strong background in accounting and financial systems, Greg specializes in translating business needs into technical solutions. His proven leadership skills and solution-oriented approach have made him a well-known consultant for system implementations, strategic planning, and financial reporting.

All seriousness aside, when he’s not advising clients or troubleshooting at work, Greg enjoys spending his free time biking, reading, or camping in the great outdoors. In fact, he once tried to install an ERP system while sitting in a tent in the middle of the woods. Needless to say, his attempts were thwarted by poor internet connectivity and the occasional woodland creature interrupting his work. But hey, you can’t blame a guy for trying to mix business with pleasure!

Brian Kindt
Deployment Engineer
When it comes to Deployment Engineers, you “Kindt” get much better than Brian! While his time at the University of Michigan (Go blue!) made him a Wolverine at heart, his return to Traverse City helped him down the path toward an exciting career in IT! Previously a Data Analyst, Network Engineer, and IT Director, Brian’s experience makes him a naturally great fit on our Professional Services Team. Talk about a wide variety of responsibilities, anything from configuring a firewall, to builidng new servers, and the occassional deployment of new networking equipment, Brian is always busy!
While you’ll rarely hear much out of Brian (he’s more quiet and reserved than most on Team Safety Net), we can assure you, Brian is loyal and refreshingly honest. He meets each task with a wealth of industry knowledge, and the determination to provide outstanding service to every customer.
Like many in Michigan, Brian often finds himself enjoying the nature that surrounds him. Water sports keep him busy in the summer, hiking and biking fill in the other 10 months of the year!

Tony Van Buskirk
Technical Alignment
Manager
Tony Van Buskirk
Technical Alignment Manager
It took a passionate friend/former co-worker, a series of perfectly timed events, and a little bit of luck for Tony Van Buskirk to end up at Safety Net, but we sure are glad he did! Tony’s professional life started with over a decade in the banking industry. We’re sure it was by complete coincidence, he was also studying Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. Was he hoping to stop bank robbers, or become a really good one with an inside scoop on both sides?!
Always a lover of computers and video games, when Tony felt he had done all he could do at the bank, he decided a career in IT was next. Being the hardworking, determined guy he is, Tony enrolled in classes through Colorado State University’s global campus. After being on the Dean’s List every semester, he earned a Bachelor’s in Information Technology. Not only did he graduate, but he did so in the top 15% of his class. Talk about dedication!
Tony is as flexible as they come, often spending hours in the car to share face time with clients. Luckily, he’s a fan of cars and driving, so he certainly doesn’t mind traveling. His attention to detail makes him an excellent Technical Alignment Manager – working his way through a 200-point checklist or digging into a recurring issue for a client to find the root cause. Known for his playful hint of sarcasm, Tony enjoys sharing ideas and perspectives in team meetings.
When he’s not soaking up the latest and greatest in tech, you might find Tony doing his most important job – being a great dad! Whether it’s reading a book, watching movies, or getting out for a long drive on a beautiful day, Tony knows spending time with family is important, and he’s grateful for the work-life balance he’s found at Safety Net.
Tyler Monahan
Network
Technician
Tyler Monahan
Network Technician
Tyler Monahan is not your typical Network Technician. He brings a unique set of skills and interests to the table. He is a proficient polyglot, which means he can read and understand multiple languages. He’s like a secret agent, but in addition to breaking complicated IT problems, he’s breaking language barriers. He can navigate through Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish with ease.
But Tyler doesn’t just know how to speak the language of computers and other cultures. He also has a passion for music and literature, making him a well-rounded individual. In his free time, which there isn’t much of since he’s still a student at the University of Michigan, you can find him playing the piano, learning (more) new languages, or getting lost in a great book. We haven’t heard which is his favorite, but we hope to find out! With automation handling the mundane tasks, Tyler has freedom to use his judgment and experience to tackle more challenging issues. While some might say he is shy, he comes out of his shell to provide excellent support to our clients. Tyler is definitely reliable, and he enjoys his in-office days over remote work. He doesn’t mind the change of scenery when there’s an opportunity to get out of the NOC to provide on-site support. One of Tyler’s most admirable qualities is his willingness to admit when he’s wrong. Even better? He’ll do the work to learn where a mistake was made and how to avoid the same hiccup in the future. Gotta love that!
With his language skills, artistic abilities, technical expertise, and positive attitude, Tyler could be a great addition to the Safety Net trivia team! Until then, we’re lucky to have him in the Support Services Group.

Kudos to our Founders and Board for creating and supporting a rock-solid company culture focused on excellent client service!
Kevin Bozung
Co-founder
Kevin Bozung
Co-founder
Lao Tzu wrote “A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves.” We think principal and co-founder Kevin Bozung could very well be channeling the ancient philosopher, because at the end of the day when we finish a large project or satisfy a client, we’re pretty certain we’ve done that ourselves. However, when we look at the big picture, we realize Kevin has worked tirelessly to craft a strong business by building a team of dedicated professionals, pursue a strong client base, and push us all to do our very best at all times. Oh maaaaan, he tricked us!
Kevin manages company finances and shares responsibility for setting the strategic direction of the company with Beth Holmes-Bozung and Tim Cerny. Kevin has a strong technical background, beginning in the 1990s and working his way up to Senior Network Engineer, leading large network infrastructure deployment and upgrade projects for firms in the Detroit and Grand Rapids areas.
Outside of the tech world, Kevin is very much a family man. He enjoys spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, running and cycling. When time allows, he is actually pretty handy and gets neck-deep in home remodeling projects (and sometimes has the injuries to prove it) and woodworking. We all think he’s a pretty nice guy too, but we don’t tell him that. We’re fairly certain getting us to think that is part of his master plan, and we’re not admitting to being fooled anymore!
Beth Holmes-Bozung
Co-founder
Beth Holmes-Bozung
Co-founder
In her role as Co-founder of Safety Net, Beth oversees human resources and marketing. She shares strategic oversight with her husband and partner, Kevin, as well as CEO, Tim.
Beth is passionate about everything she does, from exploring the natural beauty of Michigan with Kevin and their two children, to music, travel, and her community. Beth serves on various local boards. She loves geeky business books, using knowledge gained to advocate for the Greater Grand Traverse region and for growing talent throughout Michigan. She holds a BBA from the Lee Honors College at Western Michigan University.
Beth pioneered visioning (a la Zingerman’s) at Safety Net and continues to inspire the team through her leadership.
Tim Cerny
Chief Executive Officer
